Remarkable landscapes & trees

The gite is situated in the Commune of Montesquieu-Avantes, which is both in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional de l’Ariège and in a site listed for its ‘Remarkable Landscape” (Official Decree of 21 June 2013).

On the flank of a 500 meter-altitude hill, the gite enjoys an exceptional panoramic view over the Pyrenean chain, with Mont Valier at its centre. Its patio provides a veritable balcony on the Pyrenees.

Additionally, several trees around the gite are also listed as “Remarkable Trees”.

Its geological environment is made up of a mosaic of woods and meadows as well as numerous rocky outcrops, certain of which have served to provide dry-stone walls …

This territory, esteemed since prehistoric times, thus holds within it astonishing historic, landscape and natural riches.

It is a spot that is both unique and preserved in respecting biodiversity, welcoming numerous birds of prey and other bird species that can be observed as well as rare orchids.

The Pyrenean specialist Patrice de Bellefont inventoried this “unspoiled” landscape as one of the best walking areas of the French and Spanish Pyrenees.
